What instruments do you teach at Oakville Academy of Music?

We offer private lessons for piano, guitar, voice/singing, violin, drums, and ukulele — for children, teens, and adults of all levels. All lessons take place at our studio at 1026 Speers Road, Unit 6, Oakville.

What age can my child start music lessons?

Children can begin piano and ukulele lessons as young as age 4, violin from age 5, and drums from age 6. Voice/singing lessons start at age 7. Every lesson is tailored to the age and learning style of each student.

Do you offer music lessons for adults?

Absolutely! We welcome adult beginners and experienced players of all ages — we have students in their 70s picking up an instrument for the first time. It's never too late to start your musical journey.

How much do music lessons cost?

Lessons are $44 for 30 minutes or $88 for 60 minutes, plus a one-time $25 registration fee. Music lessons are HST exempt. There are no annual fees, performance fees, or semester minimums.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No — all lessons are offered on a month-to-month basis with no contracts, no semester lock-ins, and no large upfront payments. We only want students who truly want to be here.

Do you offer online music lessons?

Yes! We offer both in-person and online music lessons to fit your schedule and preference. Contact us to find the option that works best for your family.

Can parents sit in on their child's lesson?

Yes — we have an open-door policy. Parents are welcome to observe any lesson at any time. Every lesson room has observation windows and security cameras with lobby monitors, and all teachers hold a current RCMP vulnerable sector police check.

What styles of music do you teach?

We teach all styles including pop, rock, jazz, classical, country, blues, and more. We also support students pursuing Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) examinations at all levels. Our goal is to help students learn the music they love.

Do you hold music recitals?

Yes — we host biannual recitals every April and December at a beautiful local venue with a grand piano. Recitals are a wonderful opportunity for students to build confidence and perform for friends and family.

We're located at 1026 Speers Road, Unit 6, Oakville, ON. Hours: Monday–Thursday 9am–9pm, Friday 11am–7:30pm, Saturday 9am–4pm, Sunday 9am–4pm. We also have locations in Burlington, Georgetown, and Brampton.

From the front desk staff to the teachers, everyone is wonderful and so supportive. Both of my kids (ages 5 and 10) learn piano here, and it has been such a positive experience. My 5-year-old only started a few weeks ago, but she looks forward to her lesson every single week. She works with Maddy, who is incredibly kind and patient. She’s also a beautiful singer—I think I heard the sweetest rendition of Twinkle Twinkle from her! My little one absolutely adores Maddy and loves every lesson. My 10-year-old used to struggle with notes and rhythm, but ever since she started working with Graham at OMA, the progress has been remarkable. She not only passed her RCM Level 2 exam with flying colors but is now confidently working on the next level. Graham is such a passionate teacher—you can tell how much he truly cares about his students every time he gives feedback. The front desk is run by Apollo, who is an absolute master of scheduling! She’s always cheerful, welcoming, and incredibly helpful with make-ups or changes. In the beginning, she took the time to match my kids with teachers who fit their personalities, and she always remembers details and requests—even months later. The recitals are also fantastic. They’ve given my kids the chance to perform in public, build confidence, and most importantly, deepen their love for music. If you’re looking for a place to learn piano, I can’t recommend Oakville Music Academy enough. Our drum lessons can include pop, rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other drum styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge each drum student with technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort.

Private violin lessons in Oakville are offered to students of all ages and levels with Royal Conservatory of Music, Suzuki, or a blend of both methods. Core music principles are emphasized through solid violin programs at the Academy of Music, starting with the fundamentals – learning the parts of the violin, proper finger placement and bow hold.

Our music teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as York University, Western University, Humber College, Mohawk College, and the University of Toronto. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of Canada and the US, and have years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.

FAMILY SAFETY PLAN

Every parent is concerned about their children’s safety and well-being. The Academy of Music has invested thousands of dollars in our “5-Point Family Safety Plan” which helps parents ease their minds while their kids are at their music lessons. Our “5-Point Family Safety Plan” consists of:

• Every music lesson room has a video/security camera with viewing monitors in the lobby.
• Observation windows in every music teaching room
• Teaching faculty must have a current RCMP vulnerable sector police check.
• Open Door Policy. Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson, any time.
• Office staff is on duty every day.

THE MUSICAL LADDER SYSTEM

We are the only music school in Oakville that gives their students the opportunity to earn special colour wristband bracelets (kids and teens love them!), trophies AND certificates for passing musical tests. Do other schools offer prizes and certificates? A few. But none of them inspire their students by giving them full colour, really cool “Musical Ladder” wristbands that they can show off to their friends. The Musical Ladder is our unique method of music education that you can only get here. MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

Through various Academy of Music programs we have raised over $30,000 to date for Food4Kids Halton. We do this through our music recital fundraisers and events. Food4Kids provides packages of healthy food for kids aged 4-14 years with limited or no access to food each weekend. Packages of healthy food are prepared by volunteers and delivered to schools each Friday to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend.

MUSIC RECITALS TWICE A YEAR

Every parent just wants to know how their child is doing and if they are really progressing. The best way for a parent to understand if their investment in lessons is really worth it, is to have their child participate in a recital.

In April and December many of our students choose to perform in our biannual recitals. We hold these at a beautiful venue with a grand piano, and all the equipment necessary to make you sound great. The recitals are held locally so you don’t have to travel for a world class recital experience.

PROFESSIONAL OFFICE STAFF TO SERVE YOU

We are the only music school in Oakville that offers full time professional customer service for their students seven days a week. You can call, text, email, or Facebook Message all your music lesson questions and we’ll be there when you need us.

You are welcome to sit in and observe your child’s lessons at any time. If you prefer, you can wait in our comfortable lobby and enjoy personal time.
